THE PET CONNECTION 

Jason from the Pet Connection brought in Grady (left), a lab mix, as this week's JACK's Best Friend. In addition, Jason talked about a great new leash they use at TPC that sparked a lot of calls from interested pet owners! Melody from TPC has started a Facebook page to keep track of rescues, update people on the Most Adoptable list and make people aware of the shelter's needs.

Tuesday morning we met Deliece and Braden Hofen, a mother and son who have gone through so much in the past year and a half.  Five year old Braden was diagnosed at age three with a rare form of cancer which he's been fighting with aggressive and experimental chemotherapy.  On top of that, mom Deliece was diagnosed with breast cancer right before Braden's new treatments were to begin.

Braden is a huge David Cook fan and had hoped to contact the Idol winner to help bring a voice to this disease.  Friends put together a Facebook group and there is a race on April 18th to raise money and awareness for Braden's illness.  JACK's Big Breakfast was proud that we could make the contact between David and Braden, and while he is leaving the country right now, David and his manager have promised an autographed piece of memorabilia so that we might auction it off and raise money for the Hofens.

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue 2010 was released today and one woman wasn't happy about it. She sent JACK's Big Breakfast an e-mail saying she will not let her husband look at the Swimsuit Issue because he shouldn't be looking at other girls. As 2009 comes to a close, JACK's Big Breakfast looks back on 12 crazy months. This year had it all: sex, lies and voicemail. Veteran broadcaster Bill Grigsby recently announced he was hanging up his headphones following the 2009 Chiefs season. Ol' Grigs has long been known as Kansas City's Master Of Ceremonies.  We at JACK's Big Breakfast have always held him in high regard.

The breaking news from Monday was that the Chiefs have released Larry Johnson! The petition worked!

To celebrate this bit of news we checked in with Dan and Andy, our guys from the Stop Larry online petition, to see how they felt.

Friday morning we had Andy Phelan and Dan Cataldi, two-thirds of a group of friends who founded the Petition To Stop Larry Johnson. From what, you might ask?

 Andy and Co. want to prevent the embattled Johnson from breaking Priest Holmes rushing record by asking the Chiefs for Johnson's deactivation or outright release. Johnson has just 70-some yards until he breaks the record.

So far over 26,000 people have signed the petition and the number is growing by the hour. This story has been picked up by the national media: Wall St Journal, ESPN, the New York Times...but none of these reporters KNOW the actual guys involved, like Truta does!

As a radio programmer I have a lot of music cross my desk and some of it is pretty damn good. Now, not all of these tunes will get radio airplay and I think that's a shame. So I figured out a way to highlight some of these tracks...that's where I give you my new podcast.

It will pop up from time to time to feature one or a few new songs that I find interesting and want to share with you.

Saturday afternoon at Adam's Rib, Truta delighted a large crowd by downing over two pounds of brisket to take the gold in the first ever Ultimate Brisket Burger Celebrity Eating Challenge. For his efforts Truta was awarded $5,000 that he has designated to The Pet Connection to help all of our homeless furry friends around Kansas City.

Monday was both Hammer Time AND Hamburger Time! Our good buddy Joe Zwillo, owner of the Westport Flea Market (home of The BEST burgers in KC!), stopped by to show off his new promotional toy - The Hamburger Car!

Congrats to Joe on celebrating 28 Years of the Westport Flea Market (we're glad it's not a Hooters, Joe!)

It was proven on Thursday that neither Nycki or Truta belong in a spelling bee, but lucked out when JACK's Big Breakfast landed the only Kansas City interview with 2009 Scripps Spelling Bee champion Kavya Shivashankar.

A 13-year old from Olathe, Kavya loves studying spelling, playing the violin, swimming, and being a kid.

Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers stopped by JACK's Big Breakfast this fine Tuesday morning...OK, so it was only Roger.  The Peacemakers were peacefully sleeping in the bus after a racous night in Dallas and a long bus trip.

Roger spent an hour with us playing some Refreshments and Peacemakers tracks, commenting on JACK's Eight Tracks, and sharing his opinions on everything from keeping chickens to Star Trek and everything in between.
