ARTIST: Nerf Herder

TITLE: Van Halen   X

LABEL: My Records, 1996

Hey, Van Halen is coming to the Sprint Center May 22nd! Tickets will be available through AXS. The band Nerf Herder was none too pleased when Sammy Hagar took over as singer, but they can simmer down since David Lee Roth is in charge this time around. --Steve-O

ARTIST: Kool & the Gang

LABEL: De-Lite, 1984

These guys are opening for Van Halen. After listening to their greatest hits, including "Ladies Night," "Misled" and "Cherish," I decided that this one is still my favorite. --Steve-O

I love me some Prince. I even joined the NPG Music Club so I could snare front row center tickets for a St. Louis concert. So when his royal purpleness announced a pay-per-view performance to count down to the new century, featuring guest performances by Lenny Kravitz and the Time  ... heck yeah, I subscribed! The world didn't end in Y2K, but perhaps the Mayans were right about 2012. --Steve-O

Jamaican-born Heavy D was always about a peaceful, positive message. He recorded catchy songs with many of the greats: Michael Jackson, Pete Rock, B.B. King, Marley Marl, Teddy Riley. He's also beloved for his theme songs for In Living Color and Mad TV. Watch for his final cameo in the new Ben Stiller / Eddie Murphy film The "Tower Heist." ARTIST: Oingo Boingo

TITLE: No One Lives Forever [Boingo Alive Version]   X

LABEL: MCA, 1985

Truth be told, ANY Oingo Boingo song would work as a Halloween classic. ARTIST: Brian May

TITLE: Driven By You   X

LABEL: Parlophone, 1991

His hair may have been white, but Queen guitarist Brian May proved he can still ROCK it along with Lady Gaga at this week's MTV Video Music Awards. Wonder what his former bandmate Freddie Mercury would've thought of GaGa's cross-dressing Jo Calderone character? --Steve-O

ARTIST: Freddie Mercury

TITLE: Love Kills [Remix]   X

LABEL: Columbia, 1984

Speaking of Freddie, let's review a track from the Metropolis soundtrack. There were a few versions of the classic 1920's-era Fritz Lang film released in the eighties and nineties, each with restored footage and new music added. But c'mon, wouldn't this song have been better as a full-fledged Queen track, as a sort of sequel to their killer work on Flash Gordon?  --Steve-O

ARTIST: Queen

TITLE: We Will Rock You / We Are the Champions [Remix]   X

LABEL: Hollywood Basic, 1991

When Disney's Hollywood Records label acquired the rights to reissue Queen's back-catalog in the nineties, they commissioned a few new mixes including "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions," which got "ruined by Rick Rubin." Rick had been working with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, so he had Chad Smith and Flea do some extra drums and guitar for this (ruined?) version.  --Steve-O

This song had that trademark ZZ Top attitude, together with a decidedly eighties sound incorporating robotic drums and synthesizers. I don't see many people sporting a Velcro Fly anymore, maybe it went the way of headbands and legwarmers?  --Steve-O
