Bassist Benjamin Orr sang upbeat Cars songs like "Let's Go," "Moving in Stereo," and "Just What I Needed." But his solo album, "The Lace," tended further towards the pop ballad territory of "Drive." Ben could've done a killer follow-up, had he not passed away in 2000.  --Steve-O

Keyboardist Greg Hawkes released his mostly-instrumental side project, "Niagara Falls," months before the Cars' synthesizer-heavy Heartbeat City showcased his ear for electronic texture.
